Hui Wang, Director/Producer/Co-Writer/DP/Editor​​

Hui Wang (a.k.a. Jane) is a Toronto-based documentary filmmaker, programmer, and content researcher specialized in China-related film projects. Born and raised in Wuhan, Wang moved to Canada in 2001 and is a graduate of York University’s Specialized Honours English BA program and Toronto Metropolitan University’s Film Studies certificate program. Her debut feature-length documentary LAST HARVEST (2015) won the Tokyo TV Forum Award at the CNEX Chinese Documentary Forum in Taiwan, was the closing night film at Toronto’s Planet in Focus International Environmental Film Festival and won both the World Documentary Award and Best Female-Directed Documentary Award at the Whistler Film Festival. LAST HARVEST has been licensed for broadcast on major networks in Asia and Europe, including Singapore’s CNA and ARTE France. Wang’s second feature-length documentary THE GARDENER AND THE DICTATOR received support from the Hot Docs CrossCurrents Canada Doc Fund, Canada Council for the Arts, Ontario Arts Council, Toronto Arts Council, and the National Film Board of Canada, and was among the Top 20 Audience Favourites when premiering at the 2025 Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival. THE GARDENER AND THE DICTATOR was the opening film and also won the Special Jury Award at the 2025 EBS International Documentary Festival in South Korea. Wang is currently on the programming team at Planet in Focus International Environmental Film Festival and Mulan International Film Festival.

Jun Zhang, Producer/Co-Writer

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Jun Zhang is a Chinese-Canadian documentary producer based in Toronto and originally from Wuhan. She holds an Honours BA in Chinese Literature Education from Jiang Han University, and taught Chinese literature for nearly a decade before immigrating to Canada, where she earned a Specialized Honours BA in Sociology from the University of Toronto. With fierce creativity and subtle narrative sensibility, Zhang’s diverse background lends her work a distinct transnational perspective and keen cultural insights. Building on her experience producing and story editing Hui Wang’s award-winning debut feature-length documentary LAST HARVEST (2015), Zhang is the producer and co-writer of THE GARDENER & THE DICTATOR, Wang’s sophomore feature-length documentary.

Marc Serpa Francoeur, Executive Producer
​
Marc Serpa Francoeur is an Emmy-nominated Azorean-Canadian documentary filmmaker and co-founder of Lost Time Media with Robinder Uppal. Their feature-length interactive documentary THE WORLD IN TEN BLOCKS (2016) premiered at Hot Docs and Sheffield DocFest, and launched episodically in partnership with The Globe and Mail. THE HEAD & THE HAND (2018) premiered at Hot Docs and DOC NYC, where it was listed as a top contender for the Oscars’ Documentary Short category. In 2020, they released the CBC Docs Original NO VISIBLE TRAUMA, which premiered at Vancouver IFF and DOK.fest München. Co-produced with ITVS and with support from the Sundance Institute, LOVE IN THE TIME OF FENTANYL (2022) premiered at Vancouver’s DOXA, where it won the main juried prize. The film had its broadcast premiere on PBS’s Independent Lens and was nominated for Outstanding Current Affairs Documentary at the 2024 News & Doc Emmys. Lost Time Media was recently selected for the Netflix-supported Hot Docs Incubator program.
Robinder Uppal, Consulting Producer

Robinder Uppal is a Punjabi-Canadian-American documentary filmmaker whose work explores the complexities of immigration. As a co-founder of Lost Time Media, he has directed and produced several acclaimed linear and interactive documentaries since 2013. Recent films include NO VISIBLE TRAUMA, which premiered at VIFF and DOK.fest München, and LOVE IN THE TIME OF FENTANYL, a Sundance Institute-supported co-production with ITVS, which broadcast on PBS and was nominated for a 2024 News & Doc Emmy. Uppal was a fellow with Firelight Media’s Spark Fund and is the Supervising Producer on the American Masters and Firelight Media series IN THE MAKING.

Roland Schlimme, Consulting Editor

Roland Schlimme has been collaborating with leading independent filmmakers for more than twenty years, editing more than twenty feature documentary projects as well as numerous shorts and gallery pieces with a focus on unscripted, unconventional films. His formal sensibility and intuitive touch can be recognized in the works of Peter Mettler (GAMBLING, GODS, AND LSD, PETROPOLIS, THE END OF TIME), Jennifer Baichwal (MANUFACTURED LANDSCAPES, LONG TIME RUNNING, ANTHROPOCENE), Phillip Barker, Laura Taler, Cliff Caines, and others. While he edits primarily in his studio in Toronto, his film work has taken him to Switzerland , Montréal, Victoria, New York, and Buenos Aires.

In addition to editing, his credits include music composition, sound design, animation and special effects, as well as production. He produces music with Joseph Doane under the name Rewaver. Roland is active as a mentor to emerging filmmakers and editors. Since 2010, he has consulted, presented guest lectures and taught creative editing courses to undergraduates at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson). In 2014 he was invited to lecture and supervise a workshop for the prestigious DOC Institute Masters’ Series in Toronto.

Alan Geldart, Sound Editor & Sound Mix

Alan Geldart been professionally active in various audio production media and positions since 1980. This experience includes location film recording, stage and studio recording, music recording, post-production sound editing and mixing. He has worked in many formats including; IMAX , Theatrical films, TV Dramas, Documentaries and other interactive projects in gaming and web based platforms. The opportunities of many film subjects and locations has enabled Mr. Geldart to see much of the world and meet many diverse peoples in Canada's Arctic, the Americas, Africa, the Middle East, Japan, and China. Currently, he operates an audio post studio as sound designer.
